Maison Frapin The terroir

The Cognac region

Cognac is a product of a Controlled Designation of Origin (AOC). It comes from a viticultural area that is precisely defined and regulated by law. The Cognac region spans over 75,000 hectares around the Charente River and is under oceanic influence (hot summers and mild winters).

Diviser en 6 crus

These crus differ by the respective quality of their products, which depend on the composition of the soil. The Premier Cru of cognac is Grande Champagne. Its hillside slopes provide the best exposure and promote grape ripening. Its soil, composed of crumbly limestone and chalk, regulates humidity and temperature while effectively draining water. This Premier Cru offers eaux-de-vie with an extremely fine floral bouquet, ideal for long aging.

Frapin : Single Family Estate, 100% Grande Champagne

AN EXCEPTIONAL TERROIR…

Our family vineyard spans 240 hectares of vines in the heart of Grande Champagne – Premier Cru de Cognac. In the middle of the estate stands Château Fontpinot, an elegant 18th-century building. Cognac Frapin is the only House exclusively in Grande Champagne to hold the title "Château".

We cultivate the grape variety commonly known as Ugni-Blanc. This grape has the advantage of late maturity, a low alcohol content (better concentration of aromas), and a certain acidity. This acidity allows us to preserve the wine under good conditions until distillation. Our Frapin cognacs are made exclusively from grapes sourced from the estate.

The mastery of the vineyard, The beginning of the story…

We have been cultivating the vine for 21 generations

Between tradition and modernity, the techniques used by our Chief Vineyard Manager aim to obtain the right grapes, which will be harvested at maturity during the harvest. Once harvested and pressed, the resulting juice will ferment in our tanks. This is the vinification stage. Tailored to Frapin's requirements, this vinification process will allow us to produce the desired wines. Wines that will release all their aromas during distillation
