Plume

Son of Anne-Catherine Frapin, an important figure of the French pre-Renaissance, François Rabelais was born in 1494 under the shadow of the Anjou vineyards. A writer, physician, and humanist, he is renowned for his provocative writings, his uncompromising eloquence, and his surprisingly contemporary vision of a learned society that respects both humanity and nature.

Description

To Master François, the illustrious ancestor, Maison Frapin dedicates an exceptional cognac. Its name is Plume, which pays vibrant homage to him, featuring full and flowing calligraphy in golden ink.

As a legacy

In the cellars, hidden from prying eyes and covetousness, there is a secret place, jealously guarded, known to us as the Paradise. In this fragrant crypt, beneath the parchment labels and cobwebs, sheltered by century-old barrels, rest the very old eaux-de-vie of Grande Champagne crafted by several generations of Frapin. Each one, in its own way, reflects the heartbeat of the vineyard, the magic of a harvest, the eloquence of the grape, and the intimacy of the wood. Each carries the imprint of the people who have cared for its aging. Unique, inimitable, irreplaceable, each Grande Champagne enclosed behind the gates of the Paradise cellar writes a chapter in the House's history. As an artisan of subtle grammar, the Master Cellar has drawn from this exceptional collection to compose Plume Frapin: a selection of around twenty eaux-de-vie, sourced exclusively from our Paradise cellars and preserved for several decades. The notes are patiently blended, symbolizing the poetic quest for roundness, aromatic depth, and balance.

Color and bouquet

The robe is shimmering, almost velvety, animated with dark, orange reflections. On the nose, a delightful prologue unfolds a powerful and tumultuous bouquet. Notes of dried apricot, fig, orange, and licorice blossom, indulgent, supported by heady fragrances of tobacco and cigar boxes.

On the palate

On the palate, the aromas unfold their sensual verses for a long time—candied fruits, prunes, underbrush... leading to the epilogue of a characteristic rancio that lingers in memory. 'The terroir, the art of blending, patience, and respect for nature make Plume FRAPIN an exceptional cuvée, released in a limited series of 500 numbered copies.' Patrice Piveteau, Master Cellar.

In testimony

An ode to indulgence, Plume Frapin cognac rests beneath the gold of a luxurious bottle. An exceptional cuvée, a 'dive bottle' rich in history, it is presented in a carafe signed by the renowned workshops of the Orfèvrerie d’Anjou. What could be more natural than this alliance of two Houses with rare, ancestral, and renowned craftsmanship, both labeled as Entreprises du Patrimoine Vivant! The science of nature, so dear to Rabelais, meets here the expertise of custom work. A clever balance between tradition and design, the carafe symbolizes the close bond that unites Frapin to its illustrious ancestor. The writer’s signature is showcased: two stylized feathers in solid pewter embrace the carafe and adorn the cork with their plume. Gilded in 24-carat yellow gold, the feathers and the cork shimmer in this alliance, a sacred link between generations. With pure lines and noble materials, each piece, unique, invites you to turn the pages of a dreamlike tasting.
